New here?
Welcome!
You are here for the first time? You want to get to know our community? You want more information about us?
Here you will find short answers to frequently asked questions!
What kind of community are you?
In the EKG Freiberg we want to live, celebrate, and preach the timeless message of the Gospel in a contemporary way. For us this includes modern music; beautiful rooms where you feel at home; appealing, relevant sermons; and most of all a lively, loving community.
Because we have experienced in our own lives how radically and unconditionally God loves us, we want to share this love in words and deeds with the people around us.
Legally we are a registered cooperation within the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Saxony. But we work completely independently, and don't receive any donations from the Church, financially or otherwise.
Structurally we are part of the “Elbingeröder Association of Communities” and the “Union of Evangelical Communities”.
What do you believe in?
We believe that God became human in Jesus Christ, to reconcile all humans with himself.
We believe that all humans are sinners in need of redemption.
We believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the only way to receive this redemption.
We believe that no human can add something to their own redemption, instead it is completely God's gracious work done on them.
We believe that the Bible is God's word, and acknowledge its complete reliability and highest authority in all questions of faith and how to live our lives.
We believe that God loves every human radically and without conditions. This love is our motivation to show this love to the people around us in word and deed – no matter who they are or what they believe.
How big and how old is your community?
Our community has about 40 members, our services have about the same number of visitors, ca. 1/3 of whom are guests.
This means if you visit us, you don't stick out as “the new one”, but you also don't get overlooked in the masses of people.
In the EKG Freiberg are people of every age and period of life. At the moment the biggest groups consist of young people (often families) between 25-35 year of age, and senior citizens. The average age of our members is around 50 years, the average age of the people visiting our services is considerably lower.
Can I visit you spontaneously?
Yes please! To visit one of our services or other activities, you don't need to fulfill any requirements. They are always free, open for all, and non binding.
We are excited about every visitor – and we try to make everyone feel at home. People who have lived a life of faith for a long time are equally welcome as people who have no real idea yet what any of this means.
There are no preconditions to fulfill in what you need to know or believe, and you don't need to be a member anywhere to visit us.
This is equally true for visitors who haven't been in Germany long and don't understand much German yet. In most cases we can provide instant translations into English, sometimes also into French or Chinese.
After our services we offer tea and coffee – the perfect opportunity to get to know us better.
Feel free to contact us via e-Mail or visit us spontaneously.
What kind of activities are taking place?
We try to offer specific activities for different groups according to age and interests. For example, we have youth groups, Bible study groups, groups for senior citizens. All these activities can also be visited spontaneously and are generally open for all.
Our service on Sunday morning is THE central event in our community. Everyone comes together here – therefore it is the perfect opportunity to get to know our community and find someone to talk. It is the “entryway” into our community.
